Happy 3rd Birthday, Grant and Updates!
Grant turned 3 on Sunday. This was a fun birthday, because he really realized it WAS his birthday (as in, at naptime he informed me "I no sleep Mommy, it's my "birfday". No nap (today) "a-day".") We just hung out at home and enjoyed the nice weather over the weekend. Grant has been sick on more than off since January and I've been really sick over the last couple weeks as well, so no one felt well enough or had the energy to make any real plans. Well, let's just say that I didn't, hehe!!
- Grant is really enjoying Montessori. It was a rough start, but socially we think it was something that he needed. To see the way he has blossomed and learned is wonderful. I can't say enough great things about his school and teachers. It's been a great thing. It's also given me some one-on-one time with Sophia, which she never had, and that has really helped her blossom as well. Which leads to...
- LANGUAGE. These two little people speak in complete sentences much of the time. I'm astounded every day by the grasp Sophia had on English and speech from really early on. It's funny because you'll still hear her throw out a couple words in Spanish if she's really agitated or upset. Mainly "que" because she'd scream it whenever she wanting ANYTHING when she first came home. As she learned to communicate better, her frustration has dwindled to what I think is just a reasonable level of tantrumming for a toddler :-)
- The kids converse and play together well. They spar and fight over toys, but I really try to just supervise and try to let them work at out, because it's important to me that they learn how to relate to each other as well as other kids in that way. If I solve everything for them, what will they learn? However, Grant was on steroids for his ears which made him very irritable. That resulted in a board book to the head and a black eye for Sophia. Poor little girl. First black eye, at the hands of her brother. So for days, one of her complete thoughts we heard was "Buddy hurt my eye. He sorry.". Everyone is ok.
- Grant is getting tubes in both ears. He has had several ear infections (or one ear infection that has persisted) since January, and it has really kept him under the weather. Both of his eardrums ruptured around Easter. We saw the ENT on Monday and it's really the only thing we can do due to some anatomical factors that just don't allow his ears to ever drain.
- I think that is about all I have for now. I'm sure there's more, but I need to try to update more than say, once a month so I don't forget things!!!
- Sophia turns two this coming Sunday, then my birthday and Mother's Day is the following. It's a busy birthday time in this house.
